Digital Explorations

Between 2019-23, this dynamic project, funded by The Rothschild Foundation and National Lottery Heritage Fund with support from the Heart of Bucks enabled the National Paralympic Heritage Trust to work with 25 disabled people across Buckinghamshire.

Initially 17 participants received professional, in-depth training in the innovative techniques of 3D digital capture: both 3D scanning and photogrammetry, as well as a range of other heritage skills.

Over 60 museum artefacts, some that were previously uncatalogued and too fragile to handle, are now accessible, in a digital format worldwide to all.

The project has enabled 6 participants to take up short-term employment with The Trust.  They have trained students from Pebble Brook SEND School, and curated an exciting and unique Virtual 3D Objects Museum that is now launched below. We welcome any feedback you have about our virtual museum. We are proud to support NPHT’s Digital Exploration project, preserving and sharing their inspirational Paralympic heritage of international significance, through the digital innovation of 3D models and exhibitions, promoting wider access for disabled people, young people and researchers. This work is also helping build a local cultural sector that is inclusive, vibrant and resilient. The team’s personal approach and dedication to meeting individual needs through mentoring and training is developing the life-skills and improving the quality of life and wellbeing of disabled participants, while helping build a more diverse, representative heritage workforce locally.
