Paralympic Heritage trail app preview

A tour led by Sam Brady using the app around Stoke Mandeville

As part of the Buckinghamshire History Festival we held a preview session of our newly created Paralympic Heritage trail app. The trail took visitors from Elm Farm to Stoke Mandeville Stadium, up Stadium Approach and to the National Spinal Injuries Unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. The trail is accessible, developed with Experience Heritage, a York-based digital heritage company. Each stop has text, image and audio content written by PhD student Sam Brady.

The app is poised to launch in December 2022, so attendees to the preview session had the opportunity to experience this app before public launch!

The preview tour was led by PhD Student Sam Brady, through the app and route around Stoke Mandeville. It was a great opportunity to learn about the history of the Paralympics and the development of Stoke Mandeville. The app features archival materials and oral history interview segments, some of which are being used for the first time. There will also the opportunity to give some last-minute feedback on the app before launch.

The trail takes users around Elm Farm Road, Stoke Mandeville Stadium, Stadium Approach and Stoke Mandeville Hospital, so there needs to be an awareness of pedestrian and road traffic. We have collaborated with Buckinghamshire Disability Service to ensure the accessibility of our app.
