Thomas Young burst onto the world athletics stage with one of the standout performances of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. On his Games debut he claimed the gold medal in the T38 100m sprint, in a personal best time of 10.94 seconds. He was only 21 years old.

Thomas was diagnosed aged 12 with a genetic condition that affects his balance and coordination, which explained why he couldn’t ride a bike.

At this lunchtime online talk rising star Thomas explained how he undertook to improve his understanding of his impairment and how he developed his passion for athletics and motivation to succeed. Thomas is aiming to retain his title in Paris this summer and to complete the Grand Slam of becoming Paralympic, World, European and Commonwealth champion. This won’t be the last time you hear the name Thomas Young.

We were joined by BSL interpreter Marie Biswell for this event.
