This policy is in addition to the Equal Opportunities Policy Staff and should be viewed in partnership.

Principles

The National Paralympic Heritage Trust (NPHT) will gather and protect the unique, and inspirational heritage of the British Paralympic Movement, sharing this remarkable story of driven individuals and human endeavour that changed the world for disabled people, their friends and families, and the wider public. Our purpose and moral responsibility is to celebrate, cherish and bring the heritage to life, in a compelling and evocative way, securing a legacy, feeding a growing public interest since London 2012, changing attitudes and instilling national pride.  It is wholly committed to the principles of equality and diversity and the benefits of these both for visitors to and people who work for the NPHT.

The NPHT values and respects the diversity of its audiences and participants and is committed to:

  • Making its collections and services available to the full range of audiences, respecting their diversity.
  • Involving a full range of audiences in the development of its services and activities
  • Ensuring feedback and evaluation meets the diverse needs of respective audiences
  • Ensure all its staff take personal responsibility to ensure compliance with this policy (staff include employees, consultants, contractors, casual or agency staff, trainees, homeworkers and fixed term staff and any volunteers or interns)
  • Ensure all staff are familiar with this policy and the Equal Opportunities Policy that specifies what discrimination is.
  • Maintaining appropriate procedures in relation to equality and diversity; and
acting in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

We do not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origins, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, marital or civil partner status, pregnancy or maternity, disability, religion or belief, age or any other ground on which it becomes unlawful to discriminate under the laws of England and Wales. In this document the term disability includes physical, sensory, visual, learning and deafness.

We implement the Guaranteed Interview Scheme for Disabled People.  This means we will guarantee to interview all applicants who both declare their disability and meet the essential criteria for a vacant post. Candidates can choose to take part in the guaranteed interview scheme by indicating that they have a disability. The manager who is recruiting will be advised accordingly.

The Trustees have overall responsibility for the effective operations of this policy and for ensuring compliance with the law on discrimination.

Assurance and Review

The Trustees require that the CEO and employees take steps to ensure that all staff, volunteers and contractors in the course of the delivery of their activities observe this policy.

This policy document will be reviewed when required as the result of a significant change and in any case within five years.
